Tsavo

Tsavo National Park is the largest national park in Kenya, divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West. Together they form one of the world's largest game sanctuaries, covering an area larger than Jamaica. Tsavo East is characterized by vast, flat, semi-arid grasslands and the Galana River, home to large herds of "red" elephants that get their distinctive color from the red volcanic soil. The park is also famous for the man-eating lions that terrorized railway workers in 1898. Tsavo West features more diverse topography with volcanic hills, lava flows, natural springs, and mountain forests. Mzima Springs is a highlight, where 250 million liters of crystal-clear water flow daily from the Chyulu Hills, creating a haven for hippos, crocodiles, and fish.
