About Serengeti

Serengeti National Park is Tanzania's oldest and most famous national park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the most iconic wildlife destinations on Earth. The name "Serengeti" comes from the Maasai word "siringet," meaning "endless plains" - an apt description of this vast ecosystem. The Serengeti is world-renowned for the Great Migration, where over 1.5 million wildebeest, accompanied by 200,000 zebras and 500,000 gazelles, make their annual circular journey in search of fresh grazing. This is the largest terrestrial mammal migration on the planet. The park is also famous for its high density of predators, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, and spotted hyenas. The Serengeti's landscapes range from short grass plains in the south to wooded hills in the north, and the Western Corridor with its crocodile-filled Grumeti River.
